This 1984 Dodge 600 Turbo Commercial Is a Nightmarish Fever Dream

The Chrysler Corporation was riding high again by 1984, but were they riding high when they made this ad? A turbocharged engine was a brand-new option that year, and the resurgent automaker clearly wanted to celebrate the hot little 2.2-liter by having one abduct a woman and take her to the afterlife. There's a distinctive […]

Upslope Belgian Style Blonde with Guava, brewed just for Utah

Upslope Belgian Style Blonde

Upslope Belgian Style Blonde with Guava hits shelves in May. Don't get too excited Upslope fans, this beer is just for the state of Utah.

You might be asking yourself, why just for Utah? Well, Utah has some very weird laws surrounding alcohol by weight. This 4% alcohol by volume beer meets those requirements. That means it cans be sold in anywhere beer and wine is sold.

…carrying scents of honeycrisp apples and champagne. It is a bright, gently carbonated beer, both light-bodied and easy drinking. The soft tropical fruit character, with a hint of white grapes imparted from the guava puree, offers a touch of complexity to the clean, bright, drinking experience of a Belgian-Style Blonde Ale.

Upslope Belgian Style Blonde with Guava is available year-round in Utah starting in May, 2016.

Style: Belgian-style Blonde Ale (w/ Guava)

Availability: 12oz Cans

Acura Takes a Sepia-Toned Selfie With its BFF, the Millennial Car Buyer

Acura is turning 30, and to celebrate, it's turning its attention away from the yuppy Gen-Xers who first discovered the brand to the hopeful, car-buying Millennials of today. It's not pandering for vehicle sales, it's a relationship, see? Honda's luxury marque just launched a marketing campaign that seems perfectly designed to lure in the largest-growing […]

Wicked Weed Hop Burglar, with blood orange & grapefruit

Wicked Weed Hop Burglar

Wicked Weed Hop Burglar has hit shelves, proving the fruited IPA style is very much on fire across the industry.

This hop-forward release features blood orange, and grapefruit zest, creating a very bright, citrusy beer.

All brewers have begged, borrowed, and burgled in the name of their craft. It takes humility, stubbornness, and some sleight of hand to turn raw ingredients into liquid alchemy. Hop Burglar India Pale Ale, brewed with blood orange grapefruit zest, and liberally dry-hopped, is just such a beer, the kind of bright, citrus-forward IPA that we would do anything to keep brewing. So mind your pockets – and your hops.

Wicked Weed Hop Burglar is a 12 ounce bottle offering.

Style: IPA (w/ Blood Orange, Grapefruit.)

Availability: 12oz Bottles

Release: Late-April, 2016

7% ABV

“The new streamlined logo design reflects our promise to provide guests with a seamless travel experience so they can focus on what's important,” said Paul Cahill, Global Brand Leader Delta Hotels & Resorts, area vice president of operations, speaking to the distinct brand that Delta has to offer.

Families returning from long days at Disney Magic Kingdom or SeaWorld, wearing flip-flops and beachwear seemed a little bewildered by all the commotion in the lobby but soon realized that they, too, were invited and welcome to participate in the celebration. Live music, an open bar, champagne, waitered hors d'oeuvres, seafood, and gourmet food stations set up throughout the lobby were open to anyone who wanted to join the festivities.

Where Are All of the Hydrogen Trucks?

In the past I've written quite a bit about all different sizes and shapes of prototype hydrogen fuel cell and ICE (internal combustion engine) trucks. Since I haven't talked about this recently I'm thinking now would be a good time to revisit this subject.

Before their bankruptcy a couple of years back, Vision Industries produced their Tyrano fuel cell class 8 truck (pictured below) for use at ports in Los Angeles and Houston.

Before that, Ford was producing prototype hydrogen pickup trucks for a few years featuring their SuperChief tri-fuel pickup with ICE (pictured at top) and their Series Edge SUV with HySeries Drive, a plug-in hybrid FCEV.

Some of the other hydrogen truck players I've talked about in the past include Tata Motors, Fed Ex, UPS, Smith EV, Chevy, Heliocentris, EcoMotion, the U. S. Military, Hydrogen Power, Inc., plus more.

So, then what is new?

According to Truckinginfo.com, “…on the low-pressure, non-humidified stack technology Hydrogenics has been developing for the past 15 years and used in its other systems, Celerity is an all-inclusive hydrogen fuel-cell system designed for the medium- and heavy-duty truck and bus markets.”

Not only this, but in The Netherlands Cure Waste Management is using a hydrogen extended hybrid waste collection vehicle for paper collection in the region.

Green Car Reports stated late last year that a Chevy Colorado Fuel Cell truck is being tested by the U. S. Military.

So, while there is not a lot of action in the hydrogen truck marketplace right now there still is some action. And with Toyota already having rolled out its commercial Mirai and Honda to follow with its Clarity later this year plus Hyundai having also rolled out its Tucson Fuel Cell CUV, I'm hopeful that a commercial FCEV pickup truck plus other commercial FCEV trucks won't be too far into the future.

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2016, with Mahrs Brau

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2016

In 2015, Sierra Nevada bottled their Oktoberfest, for the first time. While the brewery has released editions of the the style in the past, this bottled edition was a collaboration with Brauhaus Riegele from Augsburg, Germany. Each year, Sierra intends on collaborating with a different German brewery.

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2016 is a collaboration brew with Bamberg, Germany's Mahrs Brau. While Sierra Nevada has 35 years of commercial brewing under their belt, Mahrs Brau boasts a few more. The family-owned brewery was founded in 1670.

“We're excited to be working together with Mahrs Bräu,” said Ken Grossman, “We have so much in common with them in the way we approach brewing, and the way we run our businesses. We're both independent, family-owned breweries with a respect for tradition, yet we're not handcuffed by it. We're not afraid to innovate and to change things up. We both care deeply about the environment, and work to make our respective beers with a mindful eye on how that impacts the world around us.”

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2016 will be available in 12 ounce bottles and draft nationally, starting in August.

“On one of my last trips I ran into an issue when I tried to pull up my airline app on my phone to display my boarding pass and found that the servers were down and I could not access it. I was lucky though because I happened to have a paper backup. Since then I have decided to take a screenshot of the boarding pass just in case I can't access the app for some reason.”

I do this all the time-and, when possible, I bring a paper boarding pass, as well. Thanks, Chris!

New Glarus is not, not canning. Here's what happened… Again.

New Glarus Mistake

New Glarus Brewing is ACTUALLY canning. It's complicated.

Back in February, New Glarus posted that they were getting a canning line. Due to some unforeseen issues, there was a little bit of confusion. It was, in fact, a KEGGING line.

Here's what we had to say back then:

New Glarus posted to their Instagram over the weekend, a picture of a new piece of a equipment in the brewery. They asked fans to guess what it was. Judging by the comments, most thought it was a canning line. To which the brewery or PR person in charge of the account confirmed it was a canning line.

That post on the brewery's Instagram remained unchanged until this afternoon, when they updated it, mentioning their mistake. (See above).

For now, it's a keg line. Sadly, no known can plans for New Glarus. For now.

The original post is below.

And here is the updated version:

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 8.06.06 PM

However… Today brought some good news to those of you in Wisconsin and the surrounding area:

Screen Shot 2016-04-20 at 8.07.48 PM

So it seems that New Glarus Brewing Co. will be canning after all.

Moon Man will be the debut can release (in 12 packs) followed by Spotted Cow in the near future. Dates are not set yet for when these cans will hit shelves, but summer in Wisconsin looks bright.

Keep drinking.

Experience Napa Valley, Part 1: Food and Wine

Clos Du Val is worth the visit

Clos Du Val is worth the visit

Why did I visit Napa Valley in California's wine country? Aside from loving wine and Napa being a quick flight from LA, I enjoyed visiting Sonoma County (which you can read about here), which is next to Napa, and I wanted to see more of California wine country.

My boyfriend and I loving our wine tasting

My boyfriend and I loving our wine/sparkling wine tasting

Before visiting Napa Valley, I solicited a lot of recommendations from friends and locals, read online reviews, and finally made a short list of wineries, restaurants and hotels that couldn't be missed. Each place that I hand-picked had something cool or unique about it. But, it wasn't a very short list, which left me in some trouble. So I narrowed my location to downtown Napa and Yountville to make my list more manageable.

Here are my favorite picks for food and wine from my trip to Napa Valley with my boyfriend Spencer-followed by my hotel picks in Part 2 tomorrow. Feel free to share your favorite Napa Valley spots below in the comment section!

Bistro Jeanty

Bistro Jeanty

Food: Bistro Jeanty6510 Washington St, Yountville, CA 94599; 707-944-0103

Pretty much every local recommended Bistro Jeanty. And I now see why. It stood out not only for the fact that it was a beautiful French bistro and because everything we had was excellent (we had the “Foie gras au torchon with sauternes gelĂ©e and brioche, pate and rabbit blanquette pappardelle with morels and creamy mushroom sauce”), but also because everyone was friendly and pretty laid-back. And I'm not talking just about the server; the people on both sides of us were either locals or regulars. We really enjoyed talking to one couple that was retired and comes here often for lunch and the other couple had an interesting story of discovering the States in an RV and they come to Napa every three years.

We did not expect to meet such wonderful people at lunch, especially considering all the hype about Napa. Bistro Jeanty was by far my favorite dining experience in Napa.

Tip: Go for lunch! Not only is it less-crowded at lunch, but also the patio was just gorgeous during the day. And always order the specials. Not that anything is bad, but the specials were just incredible and if you're looking for a unique meal, you can't do any better.

Clos Du Val

Clos Du Val

Wine: Clos Du Val5330 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558; 707-261-5200

Clos Du Val is French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley.” It acquired vineyards in Stags Leap in 1972, and it was there that its first wines were made-including the famous 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon. It was one of six California Cabs selected for the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris Tasting, where California defeated some of Bordeaux's best.

We visited many wineries that we liked including Mumm NapaChandon and HALL Wines, but Clos Du Val was my best experience for several reasons. First of all, the place looks dreamy from the outside, with ivy growing up the building and rose gardens. It has a laid-back vibe and all of the people we interacted with were great.

Jim at Clos Du Val

Jim at Clos Du Val

Many wineries boast that they educate visitors, but with some wineries we found that we either had issues getting the attention of the staff or felt as though we were bothering them by asking questions. Not so at Clos Du Val. I really appreciated our educational tasting experience led by Jim. He made it fun, and we didn't feel silly for asking him a question. Jim also taught me how to use a decanter with a pointed bottom. (Am I the only one who has a flat-bottomed decanter?!) Now I clearly need one.

Clos Du Val

Clos Du Val

The best part, of course, was the wine! Spencer and I each did the “Splendor Tasting” (one white and three reds) and really enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Reserve Cab! My boyfriend also liked the Cab Franc. While we didn't have room in our suitcase then, we purchased the Cab when we got back home. I cannot wait to drink it and relive our experience again!
