Chicago, Illinois based Off Color Brewing brewed a collaboration the first week of July. This one… is a little different. As these words are being typed, I'm thinking of a beer geek somewhere swelling up and busting, all Big Trouble in Little China style. Off Color Brewing collaborated with Miller High Life.
That's a bit “Off Color” right? The teams are good friends who have talked about this collaboration for years. Now in summer of 2016 it has finally happened. Honestly, this “macro” meets “craft” collaboration sounds pretty awesome. Mainly because of all the crazy ideas we have been brainstorming about what final beer will come out of this.
In May, John Laffler of Off Color Brewing travelled to Milwaukee to brew on Miller's pilot system. Yesterday, the Miller gang brewed on John's system in Chicago.
No we now more about what came of this collaboration. Meet Off Color Eeek! The base beer uses Miller High Life ingredients – the same that have made the Champagne of Beers popular for years. The twist? As we understand it – Off Color used wild yeast, basically creating the “Champagne of Wild Ales.” The beer is being bottle conditioned with champagne yeast as well.
Off Color Eeek! will be available in 750 milliliter bottles. The release date is still pending.
Beer is fun. Even more so after a collaboration like this.
Ed note: The details are subject to change. Neither brewery has commented on the release.
