Travel Tip of the Day: The Safest Countries in the World

Iceland-May-2011-217The Safest Countries in the World

With all of the violence in the world, I know a lot of Americans are afraid to travel internationally. That boggles my mind because even as a proud American, I feel less safe here than I do in most countries I visit. Not surprisingly, in a number of surveys/rankings America isn't one of the safest countries-and isn't even close.

In this index by Visions of Humanity, the USA is ranked a sad 103. That's out of 163, right between Uganda and Cambodia. It's worth checking out the full rankings, but below are the top 10 safest countries in the world. I'm not surprised by Iceland (which I last visited and wrote about in 2011) but I thought Singapore would've been in the top 10, if not the top 3. How about you? What do you think is the safest country in the world?

1. Iceland

2. Denmark

3. Austria

4. New Zealand

5. Portugal

6. Czech Republic

7. Switzerland

8. Canada

9. Japan

10. Slovenia
