Check Other Luggage Carousels
I rarely check bags, but when I do, I know to not always trust the airline or the airport screens when they tell me which carousel my bags will come down. Recently, knowing how things work saved me and the dozens of travelers on my flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles. We were all waiting around carousel 4, since that’s what the airport screen displayed and what the airline had announced over the PA system. But when returning from the bathroom, I decided to look at the bag tags on carousel 1, which had bags circling around but no one around it. Sure enough, the bags were from our American Airlines flight! I grabbed my bag and then told everyone what was up. They first looked at me like I was a freak but when they realized I wasn’t lying, they thanked me profusely since I saved them a lot of time.
I’ve also seen baggage from one flight come out on two separate carousels, so always look around before filing a lost luggage claim.
