The Thanksgiving Tale of Calvin Brandt's Red 1933 Ford Pickup

The year was 1789 when the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in the United States and Thanksgiving has been a holiday in Canada since 1957. Whether it's Canadians or Americans, Thanksgiving evokes different imagery for everyone, and that includes classic truck owners.

The year was 1997 when the Goodguys 1st Annual Southwest Nationals took place in Scottsdale, Arizona and for Calvin Brandt of Peoria, Arizona almost twenty-two years to the day since he'd bought his 1933 Ford pickup. In the early days Calvin drove his '33 Ford as a weekend warrior from 1975 until 2009 when he decided he wanted to turn the trusty Ford into a show & go winner.

The Goodguys Southwest Nationals mark the end of the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association's show season, but it was the beginning for Calvin and his 1933 Ford pickup this year. It was just a week short of Thanksgiving 2016 when Calvin was able to drive his freshly completed 1933 Ford pickup to the Goodguys 19th Annual Southwest Nationals. Under the hood Calvin went with the tried, and true totally blacked out 350-inch small-block Chevrolet engine topped with black valve covers and polished aluminum fins. For an automatic transmission Calvin stayed on the tried and true route and went with a TH350.

It's the dashboard where Calvin really went off the beaten path and created a one-off look like never seen before on a 1933 Ford pickup. The shooting gallery instrument cluster is from a 1962 Chrysler 300, but the originality doesn't stop there, Calvin cut sections out of a fire hydrant and fabricated a dashboard equally as radical as the '62 Chrysler instrument cluster. Look to the images of the bed and you'll notice Calvin fabricated a special enclosed area on the tail end that stows a folding chair, and who knows maybe next month Calvin will be able to hide away a few Christmas presents.
