Founders Frootwood, a maple syrup barrel-aged potential

Founders Frootwood

Founders Frootwood is a future bottle potential by the Grand Rapids, Michigan brewery.

Much of the brewery's barrel-aged offerings are found in the Backstage Series with a couple of exceptions – the highly desired Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) and Backwoods Bastard. Incidentally, the next big barrel-aged release by Founders, known as Lizard of Koz, is coming in December. Blueberries and bourbon will be a great way to finish out the year.

Founders Frootwood is a cherry ale, aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels. Speaking of which, Founders ages another ridiculously popular beer in maple syrup bourbon – Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS).

We took a crisp, light-bodied cherry ale and hid it away in oak barrels that held both bourbon and maple syrup. After a lengthy sting, it emerged a changed beer, blanketed in notes of warm vanilla and earthy sweetness. The wood proves itself the star of this beer, adding depth and taming the tart cherry while the maple imposes a velvety texture that lingers for not a moment too long.

A few things to note, Founders Frootwood will be a 750 milliliter bottle release. Also, the label states “Barrel Aged Series” which could signal the addition of a new line of barrel-aged beers.

The brewery has not yet announced this beer.

Style:              (w/ Cherries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon. Maple Syrup.)

Availability: 750ml Bottles.

Debut: TBA

?? ABV

Found: Massive Mopar-Only Junkyard

Last year I had the opportunity to visit Stephens Performance Mopar yard, in Alabama, for 5 hours. One would think that would be plenty of time to see everything. Wrong –there was more than imaginable, so this year, en-route to Power Tour I swung past again to photograph the remainder of the yard. Again, I was treated to hundreds of cool Mopars. I was in my happy place, and if not for the crazy heat and humidity, it would have been perfect.

Take a virtual walk through the rows upon rows of retired Mopars spanning the grounds in this 200-image gallery.

Worst travel moment: I was in Chennai, India for a friend's wedding in December 2015, three days after the city was affected by crazy floods. Just as I was on my way to the airport (three hours ahead of time to beat the traffic), it started raining and flooding again. Not only did I miss my flight, I was stuck in traffic for seven hours with no way to go anywhere, no hotels nearby and no way to even take a leak :( The traffic cleared at 1 am.

What's your dream destination? Bora Bora.

Best travel tip: Food is part of travel. Experience and explore-don't just sight-see. Plan ahead.

How to Avoid Getting Sick on Public Transportation

I'm a germ freak and I'm not embarrassed to state it. But after watching Jeff Rossen's report on NBC's TODAY about which city has the germiest taxis, buses and trains, my paranoia factor doubled. The above five-minute video shows why it's so important to wash your hands often and to keep your hands away from your face. As you will see, public places are teeming with bacteria and it's not just the shared handrail or poles on trains and subways. Dangerous and contagious germs lurk on taxi seats and especially the keypads where you swipe your credit card and punch in your tip. Check out the report!

Ford Attempts to Douse Its Mustang Fireball Problem

It was a hot summer, but not quite as sizzling as the top-end Mustangs seen enveloped in flames at various U.S. track days. Ford Motor Company is attempting to put a lid on that burning pot of controversy - and danger - by recalling 8,000 Shelby GT350/R Mustangs for a defect that could be blamed in a […]
