Nick Tokman

Nick Tokman

Name: Nick Tokman

Occupation: Crab fisherman from the Emmy-winning Deadliest Catch (Discovery Channel) and motivational speaker

Hometown: West Springfield, MA

College: John Molson School of Business

Short bio: I grew up in a town where hardly anyone leaves and most work a 9-5 job they do not like. I was on a college break one day and saw Deadliest Catch on TV. I wanted to try it, so I bought a plane ticket to Alaska to find a fishing job and ultimately landed on the Northwestern. After being on Deadliest Catch for four years, I decided to leave this Emmy-winning show to pursue a motivational-speaking career.

How often do you fly? I would say about five or six times a year.

How many countries have you been to? Four, but I've to almost every US state.

How many continents have you been to? One.

Earliest travel memory: I was five-years-old and going on a road trip to Canada to see my family with my mom, my cousin, and my aunt. It was our first five-hour road trip. My cousin and I were driving my aunt and mom insane. We were throwing things around the car, putting pencils up our noses, doing stupid stuff. My cousin and I were laughing hysterically. Mom and aunt? Not so much.

Favorite American city: Charleston, South Carolina.

Favorite international city: Quebec City, CA. Awesome place for Winter Carnival.

Least favorite country: Mexico…sorry.

Friendliest people in the world: People from Kodiak, AK.

Country with the meanest immigration officers: Actually crossing the American border from Canada. I feel like I'm being interrogated like a criminal sometimes.

Favorite airline: Definitely Virgin.

Aisle or window: Window.

Favorite airport lounge: Airport lounge? Hmm… next question.

Favorite U.S. airport: Bradley International Airport. It means I've arrived home.

Favorite international airport: Mexico City International Airport.

Favorite hotel: Definitely the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. That place was awesome! I remember I was going to a banquet and forgot my dress belt, so the concierge guy took his off and let me borrow his.

Favorite cruise line: Royal Caribbean though cruises are not the best way to see new countries and territories.

Favorite travel credit card: Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus Visa. Great air miles program!

Favorite island: Kodiak, AK. What's up?!

Favorite beach: The beaches in St. Croix are amazing. I can snorkel there for hours.

Favorite National Park: It's not a national park, but I love hiking in the Adirondacks. Amazing mountains and killer scenery.

Favorite fancy restaurant: Mama's Fish House in Maui takes the cake…

Favorite hole-in-the-wall: Boustan in Montreal, QC. Their shawarmas are killer.

Favorite bar: Stoney's in Las Vegas, NV. Great crowd, awesome people and the girls are hot too.

Favorite fruit: Raspberries.

Favorite food: Poutine-French fries, curd cheese, gravy.

Least favorite food: It's a tie between pig intestines and cow tripe.

Drink of choice (in the air and on the ground): Water. Alcoholic? Bloody Caesar.

Favorite travel movie(s): I don't watch many movies.

Favorite travel show(s): I also killed my TV.

Favorite travel book(s): “The Count of Monte Cristo,” “The Mastery of Love.”

Favorite travel website(s)-besides JohnnyJet.com, of course! Whatever site is going to pay me the most for this question.

5 things you bring on a plane: Sunglasses, pillow, slippers, pajamas, and my phone.

What do you always seem to forget? My head.

What do you like least about travel? Definitely waiting in line at security.

What do you want your loved one to buy you from an airport Duty Free store? A Breitling Super Avenger II.

Favorite travel app(s): Does Urban Spoon count?

I'm embarrassed I haven't been to: I'm not embarrassed…I'll get there.

What's your dream destination? Buenos Aires. Let's tango!
