Sneak Peek! Muscle Car Move-In at the 2016 MCACN

The 2016 edition of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals doesn't begin until Saturday, Nov. 19, but we caught an early flight to Chicago to bring you a sneak peek at some of the 500 rare and desirable muscle cars that will be on display at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, next door to O'Hare airport.

Highlights of this year's show include a big gathering of Shelbys: Cobras, GT40s, G.T. 350s and G.T. 500s. Of course, MCACN being MCACN, many of these are extremely rare models, one-offs, prototypes, and the like. New for 2016 is a class for Day Two cars, and from what we've seen already, those will be some of our favorites at the show. There are some very historic race cars on display this weekend, including the 1969 Torino that Bobby Unser drove to victory on Pikes Peak (in completely original and unrestored condition); the Purple People Eater road racing Corvette built by Nickey and discovered decades later at a swap meet by Carlisle Events' Chip Miller; the Motion Performance King Cobra drag-race Shelby Cobra; and the Packer Pontiac “Swiss cheese” drag-race Catalina.

Tim and Pam Wellborn are presenting a class for muscle cars with factory sunroofs, there's a class for hot Studebakers (yes, Studebakers), and an invitational for Boss 351 Mustangs. As has been the show's tradition, there are displays celebrating muscle from 50 years ago (1966) and 45 years ago (1971), dusty relics in the Barn Finds & Hidden Gems area, and original muscle going through the vintage certification program all weekend.
